Galleria Paolo Curti/Annamaria Gambuzzi & Co is pleased to present the solo show by Tristano Di Robilant, opening on Tuesday 22 March 2011, 18.30, at Via Pontaccio 19 in Milan.


Di Robilant (London 1964, lives and works in Rome) presents his latest production of works in blown glass. Seven sculptures made in Murano in collaboration with the master glassmaker Andrea Zillo, to retrace the great Venetian tradition of craftsmanship with this material, through a contemporary language still charged with the refined elegance of days gone by.
Historical and literary references are always a part of the work of Di Robilant, who draws from the ancient world of Byzantine embroidery and Christian glass artifacts, as well as the American conceptualism and minimalism of the 1980s, a period the artist spent in New York, and the time of the initial impulse of his artistic research.
His work also reflects an ongoing interest in architecture, which began when he attended the university lectures of the British theorist Reyner Banham. A precious stimulus that has prompted Di Robilant to investigate constructions, to reflect on archetypes, primitive and anthropomorphic forms that often recur in his work, which strike us with their simple, linear character. The shaped forms of glass embody “the idea of imperfection of that (conscious) lack of control of the form” that attracts the artist, especially due to the unpredictable character of the productive process.

The colors of the sculptures in the show – amber, green, pale yellow, all the way to the icy hue of transparent glass – establish a dialogue with the light that wraps and crosses them in a harmony of perfect complicity.


Tristano di Robilant has had solo shows in prestigious locations like the Museo Boncompagni Ludovisi of Rome (2007) and Museo Palazzo Mocenigo, Venice (2010). His works are included in important international collections, including those of Lance Fung (New York), Mark and Domitilla Getty (London), Sol LeWitt (Connecticut), Albright Knox Art Gallery, (Buffalo, NY), Museo del Vetro di Murano (Venice). A detailed overview of the works of Tristano di Robilant was published by the magazine DOMUS in September 2010.

La galleria Paolo Curti/Annamaria Gambuzzi & Co è lieta di presentare la mostra personale di Tristano Di Robilant, che si aprirà martedì 22 Marzo 2011, dalle ore 18.30 in via Pontaccio 19 Milano.


Di Robilant (Londra 1964, vive e lavora a Roma) in occasione di questa mostra espone la sua ultima produzione di opere in vetro soffiato. Sette sculture realizzate a Murano in collaborazione con il maestro vetraio Andrea Zillo, che ripercorrono nella lavorazione della materia la grande tradizione veneziana, giungendo agli occhi dello spettatore in un linguaggio contemporaneo intriso della raffinata eleganza di un tempo.
I riferimenti storici insieme a quelli letterari accompagnano da sempre l’opera di Di Robilant, che attinge sia dal mondo antico dei ricami bizantini e delle vetrate cristiane, sia dal concettualismo e minimalismo americano di cui vivrà il fascino negli anni ’80, periodo che l’artista trascorre a New York e che rappresenta l’impulso iniziale del suo percorso artistico.
Costante è l’interesse per l’architettura, nato quando l’artista seguiva le lezioni universitarie del teorico britannico Reyner Banham. Uno stimolo prezioso che ha spinto Di Robilant a indagare sulle costruzioni, una riflessione sull’archetipo, sulle forme primitive e antropomorfe che spesso ritroviamo nelle sue opere e che ci colpiscono per la loro semplice linearità. Le forme di vetro plasmate incarnano “l’idea d’ imperfezione di quel mancato controllo (consapevole) della forma”, che tanto attrae l’artista soprattutto, nell’imprevedibilità del processo di realizzazione.

I colori delle sculture esposte: l’ambra, il verde, il giallo pallido, fino alle tinte ghiaccio del vetro trasparente dialogano con la luce che li avvolge e li attraversa in un’armonia di perfetta intesa.


Personali dell’artista hanno avuto luogo presso sedi prestigiose come il Museo Boncompagni Ludovisi di Roma (2007), il Museo Palazzo Mocenigo, Venezia (2010). Le sue opere fanno parte di importanti collezioni internazionali quali la Lance Fung (New York), Mark e Domitilla Getty (Londra), Sol LeWitt (Connecticut), Albright Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo (NY), Museo del Vetro di Murano (Venezia). Un’ampia rassegna delle opere di Tristano di Robilant è stata pubblicata sulla rivista DOMUS nel mese di settembre 2010.
