Galleria Paolo Curti / Annamaria Gambuzzi & Co. is proud to present the exhibition by the French artist Bénédicte Peyrat, opening on 10 March at Via Pontaccio 19 in Milan.

Born in Paris in 1967, Bénédicte Peyrat has created a series of oils on canvas of intense impact.

The paintings seem to belong to a different epoch; enigmatic women that stand imposingly against a background of dense, color-laden skies that blend with the earth’s horizon. The convulsive, energetic brushstrokes generate a plastic quality of the figures that in their nudity reveal explicit force, but also stunned immobility, in a rarified, enveloping atmosphere.

The painterly gesture engraves the expressive intensity of the faces and sculpts the heaviness of the bodies, sublimating the figures, in a beauty from other times. Women, men and children establish a dialogue in a composition where the theme of memory seems to resurface in the objects and animals that accompany them – dogs, birds, amphorae, seashells and curios with an antique air – inside a wild, indefinite nature that seems to become the mirror of a mysterious unsettlement.

In her paintings, Peyrat evokes the expressive power and poetics of many Italian and European artists of the great tradition of painting, from the 1500s to the early 1900s, interpreting the language of the past in a personal, original and innovative style. The female nudes, in their fleshy physicality, remind us of the French realism of Gustave Courbet, but also of the deformation of bodies in Lucian Freud. The arcadian landscape, free of space-time coordinates, echoes the naturalism of Giorgione, that unity of man and nature that reflects internal movements, as well as the evocative power of Titian, unleashed amidst the reflection of ancient things and formal elegance.

For this exhibition the artist presents a series of 10 paintings, mostly in large formats, including a triptych of over five meters that completely envelops the viewer, inviting us to enter and become part of the arcadian and contemporary world of Bénédicte Peyrat.

Bénédicte Peyrat has shown her works in many European cities. She lives and works in Paris and Karlsruhe, Germany.
Her works are included in many important public and private collections.

La galleria Paolo Curti / Annamaria Gambuzzi & Co. è lieta di annunciare la mostra dell’artista francese Bénédicte Peyrat che si aprirà il 10 marzo prossimo in Via Pontaccio 19 a Milano.

Artista francese nata a Parigi nel 1967, Bénédicte Peyrat propone oggi una serie di opere ad olio su tela d’intensa suggestione.

I dipinti sembrano appartenere ad un’epoca diversa; donne enigmatiche si ergono imponenti sullo sfondo di cieli densi, carichi di colore, che si fondono con l’orizzonte della terra. Le pennellate convulse ed energiche definiscono la plasticità delle figure che nella loro nudità si mostrano forti ed esplicite e allo stesso tempo immobili e attonite, dentro un’atmosfera rarefatta che le avvolge.

Il gesto pittorico incide l’intensità espressiva dei volti e scolpisce la pesantezza dei corpi gravi, sublimando le figure, in una bellezza di altri tempi. Donne, uomini e bambini, dialogano insieme in una composizione dove il tema della memoria sembra riaffiorare negli oggetti e negli animali che li accompagnano - cani, uccelli, anfore, conchiglie e cimeli dal sapore antico - dentro una natura selvaggia e indefinita che sembra diventare specchio di un turbamento misterioso.

Peyrat nei suoi dipinti rievoca l’imponenza espressiva e la poetica di molti artisti italiani ed europei della grande tradizione pittorica, dal Cinquecento fino ai primi del Novecento, interpretando il linguaggio passato in uno stile personale, originale e innovativo. I nudi femminili, nella loro fisicità carnale si confrontano con il realismo francese di Gustave Courbet così come con la deformazione dei corpi di Lucian Freud. Nel paesaggio arcadico, privo di riferimenti spazio-temporali, riaffiora il naturalismo di Giorgione, quell’unità dell’uomo con la natura che riflette empaticamente i suoi movimenti interiori, così come riaffiora la potenza evocativa di Tiziano che si sprigiona tra il riflesso dell’antico e un’eleganza formale.

L’artista per questa mostra presenta una serie di 10 dipinti, la maggior parte di grandi dimensioni, compreso un trittico di oltre cinque metri che avvolge lo spettatore completamente, invitandoci ad entrare ed a diventare partecipi del mondo arcadico e contemporaneo di Bénédicte Peyrat.

Bénédicte Peyrat ha esposto in molte città europee, vive e lavora tra Parigi e Karlsruhe in Germania.
Le sue opere sono inoltre presenti in molte importanti collezioni pubbliche e private.
